IDACORP and Idaho Power
Darrel T. Anderson has led the company since 2014. Idaho Power has operated since 1916 and has a focus on sustainability, defined as “sound and enduring financial, environmental and social stewardship.”
Idaho Power has 17 hydroelectric projects with a total capacity of 1,709 MW as the core of its generation portfolio, on the Snake River and its tributaries, as well as operating natural gas-fired plants and owning shares of three coal-fired plants. The company has a total nameplate generating capacity of 3,594 MW and a service area population of about 1.2 million. Hydropower accounted for more than 47% of the electricity the utility generated in 2016.
The company joined the Western Energy Imbalance Market in April 2018, after an independent consultant found this move could save the utility $4.1 million to $5.1 million annually. Idaho Power said those savings will be passed along to customers.
