Tour Description: This tour takes participants to the 136-MW Merwin Dam hydro facility on the Lewis River. This is one element of the three-powerhouse Lewis River Hydroelectric Project, which has a total capacity of 510 MW. All of these projects are located in a scenic area near Mt. St. Helens in the Cascade mountain range.
The Merwin Dam project, which began operating in 1931, is located at a 313-foot-high concrete arch type dam. It features an upstream collection and transport facility, completed in 2014, that facilitates collection of adult fish (salmon and steelhead) for transport upstream of Swift Dam.
Security Requirements: All tour attendees must sign a PacifiCorp Access Agreement no later than 30 days prior to the tour.
Safety/Physical Requirements: All attendees must wear long pants and closed toe shoes. Attendees will be provided with all necessary safety equipment upon arrival. All attendees must be capable of climbing stairs and walking 330+ yards without assistance. Weather can be adverse, appropriate clothing will be needed.
