Summit Tracks:

Environmental Issues and Water Management

Owners and operators of hydropower plants and dams face many issues with regard to the environment and water management. This track will cover environmental issues, including climate change and fish passage and survival, as well as water management topics and trends, encompassing issues of concern when water is stored and moved from upstream to downstream past the facility.

Equipment and Technology (Knowledge Hub)

This track will feature technical presentations related to any and all equipment and technology used in the hydroelectric power industry. Topics covered could include generating equipment – turbines, generators, controls and more – and equipment related to civil infrastructure. Sessions also will cover technological advances and the future of equipment and technology for the industry.

Industry Trends and Analysis

This track will cover trends in the global hydroelectric power industry and provide analysis of how these trends affect the business of hydro generation. Sessions could cover such important topics as artificial intelligence, financial issues, digitalization, policies and regulations, and rehabilitation and upgrade work.

New Development

Globally, the trends in new hydropower development vary considerably. This track will address those trends as they vary by region and country and will cover topics related to new greenfield development, pumped storage activity, small hydropower, new generation at non-powered dams, and even add-on generation at existing hydro sites.

Operations and Maintenance

Proper tools and techniques for operating, maintaining and managing existing hydroelectric facilities are vital to the ongoing success of the industry. As equipment ages and the way these generating assets are operated and dispatched changes at a rapid pace, O&M personnel must stay abreast of the latest and best practices.

Selection, Notification and Responsibilities:

Selection Process:

The HYDROVISION International® 2024 Conference Planning Committee is composed of seasoned professionals working in all sectors of the hydroelectric and dams markets. This committee will carefully review all submissions sent in by the October 6, 2023, deadline, with the ultimate goal of forming highly educational and informative technical paper sessions that address topical and timely hydro-related issues.

All content will be evaluated on the strength of the submission, including content matter, market trends, and material relevance. The committee will give preference to abstracts that include project owner/developer representation. Consultants and manufacturers may submit abstracts that are non-commercial, but blatant commercial sales pitches will not be accepted for presentation.

Submissions will be graded by the committee on the following questions:

  • Is the content relevant to the industry now or in the near future?
  • Is the content clear, concise and effective?
  • Is the content objective?
  • Is the content technically sound?
  • Will this content stimulate discussion and/or encourage attendance at a conference session?

Notification: All primary contacts will be notified via email no later than January 10, 2024, as to whether or not their HYDROVISION International® submission has been selected. The presenting author for all selected abstracts will be invited to make either a Technical Paper Presentation or a Poster Gallery Presentation at HYDROVISION International®.

Call for Speakers

In addition to the technical paper sessions, HYDROVISION International® features panel presentation sessions divided into five broad categories:

  • Environmental Issues and Water Management
  • Equipment and Technology (Knowledge Hub)
  • Industry Trends and Analysis
  • New Development
  • Operations and Maintenance

These sessions do not involve a formal presentation but rather consist of an interactive panel discussion format, where speakers address various aspects of a specific topic through a moderated discussion and by fielding questions from the audience.

If you are interested in being considered as a speaker in one of these sessions at HYDROVISION International® 2024, please select one or two topic areas from the above list that best fit your expertise and submit your name, title, company affiliation, phone number, email and a short biography using our Call for Speakers form.

Requirements for speakers in a panel discussion include confirming participation and completing our Speaker Agreement to be registered for HYDROVISION International® 2024. PowerPoint presentations are not required but are highly recommended.

If there is interest from the session moderators in recruiting you as a panelist, you will be contacted.
