Hydro Discover Day

Why Hydro Discovery Day?

More than 1 in every 5 hydropower operators indicated that they have either a weak knowledge-transfer system or no transfer system at all.* Knowledge transfer, training, and education programs are necessary to meet future hydropower industry workforce needs – triggered either by attrition or potential growth. But, these programs can be difficult to find. That’s why HYDROVISION International is bringing training to the industry. Hydro Discovery Day is for those workers on the job who need a “jump start” or an accelerator in training.

This 8-hour training takes a “deep dive” into generators. Upon completion, participants will walk away with a basic understanding of the various aspects of the design and maintenance of hydrogenerator and pumped storage motor/generator units. Topics include both electrical and mechanical issues unique to these salient pole machines.

Experienced instructors will discuss current operational issues that can have an adverse impact on the life of a machine and the various tools available to help keep a unit in the best of health throughout its life cycle.

Who Should Participate in this Training?

  • An early- or mid-career engineer who missed out on taking the machinery design courses the engineering schools used to offer or who needs a design refresher
  • A mature engineer who had nothing to do with the “black box” for most of his/her career, but now needs to know more about its operation and life cycle
  • A manager or technical specialist working in operations, finance, contracting, or fleet management and planning who can benefit by getting to know more about generator technical issues or maintenance needs
  • A student of any age who wants to know more about these interesting and valuable machines

Benefits to Participants:

  • Discover a basic understanding of generator design and how generators work
  • Grasp the “why” behind monitoring
  • Helps to demystify the complications of generator specifications
  • Plenty of opportunity for discussion and sharing among participants
  • Opportunity to create/expand your professional network of individuals working in similar situations
  • Receive a certificate for 8 Professional Development Hours – PDHs – upon completion of the training
