Determining Optimum Velocity in Waterways for All Possible Discharge and Duration

The final step will be presented in a multi-step research project to develop a simple method to optimize waterway dimensions for all possible discharge and duration. First, the author developed the method, along with graphs for three types of waterways for Icelandic cost and energy level. Next, a formula of adjusted values was presented so the same extended graphs could be used for different cost levels and present value factor.

At HYDROVISION International 2024, extended comprehensive graphs of optimum velocity will be developed for more types of waterways, by adding some types of lined tunnels and probably tunnels formed using tunnel boring machines, plus more variability of each type. A co-author with international experience will provide a better estimate of the construction cost.
