Columbia River Basin hydropower is a vital element for the U.S. western power grid, with a high renewable share. Over-reliance on hydropower in the future power grid can have a negative impact on the fish population, which is culturally connected to the river basin tribal community. NREL power grid planners, multidisciplinary experts, and the Colombia  River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission will discuss a study of how fish-friendly reservoir operating rules will impact the power grid with various renewable shares.
