More than half of the active Federal Energy Regulatory Commission-licensed hydropower projects in the U.S. have license expiration dates slated from now through 2037. The expected workload in conjunction with the time, cost and complexity associated with issuing a single new license has led to initiatives that aim to increase the efficiency of the relicensing process. This panel will explore federal and state regulator and licensee-led initiatives that seek to coordinate different stages of the FERC hydropower relicensing process for multiple projects, at the same time when those projects are within a shared waterway.
