Policies and Regulations: The construction of new hydropower plants in Brazil has faced many obstacles. Much has been said about the negative impacts related to the construction of hydroelectric plants; however, we are not discussing and properly presenting the benefits of these plants to society. This paper aims to present the benefits and opportunities of large hydropower dams in Brazil considering the importance of hydroelectric plants for the electrical system and the positive impacts for the local community as a promoter of social and economic growth.
