Pumped storage hydro efficiently provides important grid-scale benefits to support integration of renewable and intermittent energy sources, but developers are confronted with significant challenges, including high upfront costs and time commitment for engineering, permitting, and construction; long lead times for equipment; and uncertainty in revenue streams.
