Jim Michalec was employed at American Electric Power for 39 years as one of their electric machinery engineers. AEP had over 120 synchronous generators powered by coal, nuclear, hydro, and gas. My experience included specification, purchase, operation, maintenance, and repair of large induction motors and synchronous generators. I was significantly involved with every synchronous generator AEP purchased from 1973 to 2010; this includes following the start-up of two units at the Pushan Station in Henan Province, China. For 9 years I was the Manager of AEP’s Plant Electrical Equipment Section.
