Kerem Karakoc
President, Mechanical,
EnFlux Engineering
Canada
Dr. Karakoç has over 17 years of extensive theoretical and practical experience in modeling, design, optimization, prototyping and control of mechanical components and systems. In addition to his expertise in electromagnetics and electromechanical actuators, he designs and optimizes pressure vessels, dynamic and morphing structures using applicable codes and standards with the help of custom routines he developed. He is a registered API510 Pressure Vessel Inspector and has been involved in numerous inspections of new and old pressure conduits, mainly penstocks, and provided engineering recommendations as necessary to address the flaws observed. He also has extensive experience in stability analysis of concrete structures, soil restraint, hydraulic design of structures, transient analysis, surge protection, and numerical modeling (FEA/CFD). Apart from technical knowledge, he managed several Hydroelectric Plant Construction and Refurbishment, Repair and Replacement projects that are commissioned and currently operational. Over the last 10 years of his career, he designed, inspected, assessed (per API579), studied, refurbished, and commissioned over 60 penstocks (18 inches to 34.5 ft in diameter). He is the Engineer of Record for design of penstock for the highest head in North America (Upper Ramona Creek Hydroelectric Project - 900m static head – operational since 2019). He also developed and successfully implemented a novel FMECA procedure to evaluate risk of operating aging assets at their current state.
