S M Shafiul Alam
Shafiul is a research scientist in the Power & Energy Systems Group of INL’s Energy & Environment Science & Technology Directorate. Currently he is serving as the Co-Principal Investigator for U.S. Department of Energy's a) WPTO funded project “Hydro + Storage: Accelerating Industry Deployment of Hydropower Hybrids”, and b) WETO funded project “Wind Power as a Real Synchronous Generation (WindSG)”.
Shafiul served as the Technical Lead of 1) planning, and execution of ultracapacitor hardware-in-the-loop simulation, 2) onsite deployment of micro PMU and data management for the preparation of April 2021 Idaho Falls Power Black Start Field Demonstration. He previously worked on the power and communication hardware-in-the-loop testbed as part of the “Opportunistic Hybrid Communications Systems for Distributed PV Coordination” project. He also served as the Principal Investigator for the laboratory directed research and development (LDRD) project “High Performance Computing-based Dynamically Adaptive Protection Schemes for Electric Grid” that built the high performance real-time co-simulation platform and developed several transmission switching based blackout mitigation heuristics.
